Title: Are g40 head gaskets really £82+vat?!
Post by: Dirrt on March 09, 2011, 11:04:23 PM
As in the title, GSF don't do g40 headgaskets or head bolts. Eurocarparts list the bolts at £17 (fine by me) but the headgasket set lists at £82+vat! Compared to the normal 1.3 HG at £9.... Albeit not in a "set".

I just searched and found the usual mk4 polo stuff but I don't fancy running Dirrts r1 charger on any higher a compression ratio. People say VW do the g40 HG but how much roughly do they charge?

Thanks guys.

Mike

Hola
I run the mk4 polo metal head gasket on my car with an r1 charger and smaller pulley and i have no issues what so ever the head bolts sound abit dear the last ones i bought were about 8 and they were original equipment ones also the last time i bought a head gasket from ecp they told me that they didnt do a kit so bought a victor reinz gt head set for every other gasket and the mk4 metal gasket
Hope this helps

The gasket I just bought from VW was a Victor Reinz one and cost roughly £20. There ain't any left now though according to the parts guy. The last gasket I put on a G40 back in the 90's was an Elring standard 1.3 jobby, and that worked fine :D

I used normal mk3 polo bolts from gsf around £20 if I remember rightly although standard bolts are 2mm shorter genuine g40 bolts cost a bomb , and I bought a headset also from gsf erling used all the kit out of there an bought a victor reinz genuine vag gasket for £20 from Tps had the erling and the victor reinz gasket next to each other couldn't see any real differences realy the erling one was very good quality I think it would be fine to use on a g40

genuine head gaskets from vw dealers are victor reinz ones i think, they are about £25 quid.

also you can get head bolts from g. laderseite. com for cheaper than v.w or anyone else i think.

Cheers guys. We've ordered a genuine VW head gasket, £26 Inc VAT. Ordered £17 worth of elring head bolts listed for the PY engine.

Apparently the VW gaskets were made obsolete in January and they listed 2 left at the factory. I ordered one. So might be worth a call for that last one if anyones interested.

Fingers crossed it will run.......

tbh they've been saying theres two left and you've bought the last one for about 5 years lol think there just pulling peoples chains if victor reinz stop making them then you in the shit but until then vw will always buy em in if they have a orders for them
