Title: Spark plug torque 25nm??
Post by: dub-disaster on February 28, 2011, 10:33:06 AM
Haynes says 25nm for spark plugs seems alot to much to me they feel like they mite strip the threads before hitting 25 nm, do they realy need to be that tight?
I realy don't fancy stripping the threads as sorting it would be a major pain in the ass so how tight do you guys do yours ??

really? 25nm isnt very much at all.  I've never bothered with a torque wrench on spark plugs but I'm sure I do them to more than that

Haynes says 25lb/ft. Not 25n/m. I did this at the weekend, tightness seemed fine, so id recommend you double check the spec you've read in the Haynes.

Felt right for me. Double check that you've not set your torque wrench wrongly or something. It's about 3 fingers tight on a normal 3/8ths ratchet haha. I held my 1/2" torque wrench lower down so I wasn't swinging on it right from the end. Helped me gauge how much force I'm actually putting on. But the threads on mine were fine at 25lbs anyway. Good luck!
