Evening everybody, Had the polo running a few weeks now, and i'm loving it. My only complaint at the minute is that when cold, I have a very crunchy 1st and 2nd gear. I know the ancillaries with the engine had done high milage, so I didn't expect it all to be silky smooth.
When I fitted the engine I drained all the old oil, and filled it with fresh 80/90 hypoid, so I know its not low on oil, and the clutch is adjusted up correctly. I just wondered if it was a commom problem on higher milage gearboxes and was there anything I could look into, to fix it. I wondered if replacing some of the oil with molyslip would help. Is it possible to gut a lower spec mk3 box for parts?? To replace in the G40 box?
If anybody has had any succes playing with tired G40 boxes, please give us some thoughts
Ta Rich ;D
It'll be a worn synchro ring, not expensive to buy new bu means a complete gearbox strip down to fit.
I'd probably take the box to a local gearbox rebuilders and get it refurbed, place all bearings and any worn parts. Will cost a couple of hundred but then you know it's good.
