Title: G40 For Sale, Damaged.
Post by: jooshy63 on January 19, 2011, 01:00:29 PM
First word, Gutted :'(
I've fell in love with this car since becoming owner of it in October time.
Unfortunately, Sunday night, I took the first exit of a roundabout and the tyre blew out underneath me, sending me straight up a central pedestrian island, wedging me nicely over the centre of it. I managed to get a friend who owns a recovery truck to come rescue me and after what appeared to be no cosmetic damage, later, after getting it on a ramp to inspect underneath, found a hell of a problem.
The drivers side chassis has bent pretty well and there's a few cracks throughout the structure too around the drivers area. From what I could see, it's going to need a lot of welding to be driveable again and after ringing around numerous damage repair garages and explaining in detail the damage done, they reckon it's at least a grands worth to be able to make it roadworthy again. Unfortunately, I do not have that sort of money at the moment, and as much as I love this car and don't want to let it go, I have no choice but to open it up to someone who is willing to take the time to repair it. I really do not want to break it as it really will be a shame to due to the rarity of these lil things and the condition it's in, but if I'm not offered a reasonable amount within the next month then I will have no choice :-[
The engine runs fine, the gearbox is fine, there's no damage there whatsoever except 1st and 2nd has gone but I'm pretty sure that's to do with the way the car was resting on the gear selector, could possibly be bent it slightly.
As for the spec, that will be as follows.
A price? I really don't know, I'm open to sensible offers, bearing in mind the car will come with MOT till November but I will be claiming the tax back.

I know this is a for sale thread but have you considered just getting hold of a clean mk3 shell (1l or 1.3cl or whatever) and reshelling all your parts into it?  Should be a *lot* cheaper than trying to repair a bent and cracked chassis.  and means at least the spirit of the car lives on!

Got to be honest, I think you'll only get people interested in buying this to break it for parts themselves :(

Turns out, a mate of mine has just seen the thread and has a GT shell he don't want anymore so depending on how much he wants, I maybe changing ideas to swapping everything over to that.

I'd probably give ya 700 for it, and would repair it, have you got any pics of the damage?

Unable to get any pics mate as I have no-where to get the car on a ramp for chassis pics. Cosmetically, the bodywork is untouched, it's just a very bent and cracked chassis.

Judging by the description i`m going to say that maybe it had some of the dreaded G stress cracks
which have helped the chassie leg to bend more out of place.
I`d repair it but only because i can and would be just as gutted if i had to pay a grand for it
to be done.
You need help Lad, so to keep it original and in my opinion the GT shell should be restored as a GT.

Regards, Fred.
