Title: Suspected Head Gasket
Post by: rochey88 on January 15, 2011, 12:45:54 PM
Hey guys

Im going out of my mind here.... cut a long storie short !

the headgasket went on my g40 bout a year ago......

I immeditaly done all the nessecory work to the car and replaced it

gasket... bolts, skimming, pressue testing etc etc you get my drift......

month later headgasket went again........ which lead me to assume the head was warped /cracked... anyway..... got a head from a working and running g40..... and swoped them over.....

again i done all of the above bar pressure testing and skimming...... new head bolts new gasket etc etc..... id done all this in the space of 2 month then the MOT run out and so did my tax.. i sorn'd the car off the road as id lost my job.

i start and run the car up to temp most days !!  the car has been off the road naw 8 months...

I put a combustion leek tester on it this mornin and the liquad changed colour.... it didnt turn yellow as it should it jut went to a light blue..?

does this mean my bottom end is warped or..... im lost and confused HELP!

Did you get the replacement head skimmed or checked for flatness?  Or like you say, could be the block itself

have you still got the old head? it might be worth getting that checked over by an engineer and if it comes back as a-ok, then you may want to suspect your current block.

have you had the engine compression tested in its current state

is the head warped? have the mating faces of the head gasket got corrosion on?

hi bud not sure if its warped or not i aint had it tested yet but their was no corrosion on the gasket as it was only on the engine for about 2 days before it went again its weird though my bro who is the mechanic out of us both said when you look at the rings on the gasket that seal the cylinders you can see they are all dimply as he put it you can see where the gases or pressure has been trying to get out

you need to get at least the head tested for warping and ideally the block too.

So is it more likely that my block or head maybe warped because of the track abuse or would this not of made any difference?

always going to be more likely that the head is warped as its made of ally and not steel.

track abuse will definitely have made a difference over normal road miles!  Like he said, much more likely to be the head so get that tested first.
