Title: difference between gt and g40 box
Post by: Jezza-7 on January 05, 2011, 08:46:32 PM
Was wondering what the internal differences were between them? Apart from gear ratios.

Getting my g40 box rebuilt soon and incase parts are hard to get could they be used from the gt box as i have a gt box still.

From memory 1st, 3rd and 5th are common to both. Obviously reverse too.

all the selector mechanism and what-not will be the same.  Final drive and the layshaft is different.  Some of the gears are the same and some are close (it's the final drive that makes the most difference between a g40 and gt box) but you'll probably need to spend more time than I have inspecting part codes in ETKA to find out exactly which gears are the same!

Parts for the ATV are available - and if you're paying someone for the labour, using secondhand worn parts is a false economy in my opinion. You'll more than likely end up with a 'box that whines like a bastard!

Yeah i see what you mean. If the parts are available, when they say there not, i will tell them they are and go elsewhere. Cheers for that andy.
