Title: Help temperature creeping up.... :/
Post by: dani1326 on December 21, 2010, 05:50:58 PM
This has just started today.... I'll get my car warm then about 3 miles down the road it starts creeping up I don't let it go up much don't fancy blowing my head gasket.,,

Could this be my thermostat???

Or fan switch or fan motor. If it's ok when driving and gets hotter at idle then probably fan switch or fan motor, if it just keeps getting hotter no matter what then I'd go with thermostat stuck shut. To check the fan, short the switch connector on the loom and the fan should run, if yes the switch is knackered, if no the motor is kaput or there's a wiring fault.

Also the possibility of a dodgy gauge and/or sender.

I'll get all them looked at tomorrow... Thanks

Sorry for digging this up, but got a simular problem.  i am sure my fan switch is broken, as the fan does not start to turn before 110° watertemp.
but i m not really sure whether the rest of my cooling is still any good.

when driving at about 2000-3000 rpm, my watertemp never rises above 80°. it sits in between 80 & 75 (even after 30 miles or so), when puching the G a bit harder
it gets to 80°-85° but never more, unless stationary or in traffic: untill recently it would rise to 100° (and fan would come on from 90° on)
now however its keeps climbing till about 110-112° and only then the fan starts turning :(

i am assuming its the fan switch that is broken, (got a new fan installed 2 years ago, incl thermostat & waterpump) but could this mean there are more problems?

My mate said not to bother about that watertemp being to low, and i have been driving like this for nearly 10K miles but maybe a second opinion would not hurt? :)

i have got no oil temp so no info on that :/
grtz

The black temp sender and the temp gauge itself have a fairly wide tolerance, so I'd not worry too much unless you've seen a change from what's normal temps for your car.

The fan not cutting in 'til an indicated 110°C suggests that either the first stage of the fan switch is broken, or the wiring for it is.
