Sorry for all the questions! Slowly getting to grips with the G40 now but I have yet another question... Under the bonnet (looking from the front) on the left hand side theres a power steering bottle on its side with a load of holes drilled in it and a pipe coming from somewhere under the manifold connected to the bottom of it, then another which just seems to vent to the atmosphere. Can anyone help identify this? My only guess is its some kind of dump valve etc? Want to get rid of it as it looks horrible. Will try and get a picture for you
P.s. Also have a pipe coming from under the manifold thats been blocked by a screw in the end of it, Was told it had the boost return mod done on it, can anyone elaborate for me?
Many thanks

If it's had the boost return mod, this sounds like it might be an oil catch tank. If you don't like the look of it then probably best to make/buy something nicer. Or put the boost return back in place, but obviously you will need all the removed bits for this.
Ahh right, anychance you can explain the boost return mods and hows it benefits me ?
Will have a good search tonight anyway. Its its just an Oil catch tank which makes sense, we have plenty of hand crafted ones at work so will get one on it.
Cheers
The pipe with the screw in it is from the vacuum pipe that goes from the inlet manifold to the ISV (Idle Stab Valve) (which then connects to your plastic boost pipe). It would all connect to the oil breather return pipe from the one way valve (the mushroom) at the back of your block and be attached to your boost return pipe from the throttle body into the rocker cover.
Probably a screw blocking up another vacuum pipe from your throttle body too, which if memory serves would ahve gone to your fuel purge valve and charcoal canister in original fit.
The boost return requires the removal of the breather mushroom one way valve (you don't have too) and a 1" pipe should go over the end of the breathe pod. Usually the solution to the oil breather is a catch tank. Some just use a bottle, with some vent holes in it, others buy an expensive aluminium catch tank which looks better.
The BRV is the secondary valve in the side of the TB, moves in syncro operation with the throttle butterfly valve using a linkage bar, TB fully open (WOT), BRV will be fully closed allowing full boost into inlet manifold. TB part throttle or closed (ish, bar idle) the BRV will be open a little bit to allow the boost air to vent to atmosphere (or in normal OE fit, it would return to the charger). The TB having two mircoswitchs for idle and WOT. Worth noting that if your charger seals blow, oil will be present on the drivers side top suspension mount side.
Some swear by the boost return mod, and love the pssst sound when dumping 1bar of boost, and your not putting the nasty oil vapour back and engine hot air into the engine operation.
Others prefer the quiet normal operation, and OE efficiency, oil vapour helps to lube the charger. BRV mod means you spray from PTFE grease spray into the charger to keep a good seal and lube.
HTH.
Oh, and the G40 doesn't have dump valves unless its been turbo'd. A DV on it tends to mess up the ECU according to legend, hence the Pssst... its the BRV mod.
Thats an awsome reply thanks mate! :)
Just for anyone who is looking to do the boost return mod, found this thread is my search, not sure if its an FAQ etc
