Title: Tyre size
Post by: samg40 on November 30, 2010, 09:04:25 AM
Morning all,

Do you reckon you could get away with a 175/65/14 tyre on a mk3 or would it scrub like a good un?

Yeah having seen some pictures of tyres in that size I dont think they'll work. I want some winters but they are proving hard to find in a decent size for 14's.

Sam, why not consider going for 165/60 or 65's? Yeah ok so they are slightly narrower than OE but if they're for winter use only they could be ideal. Remember, all other mk3 Polos use narrower tyres still and are fine unless you're being silly and pushing on, which you probably/hopefully won't be in the winter months.
Worth a thought?

Yeah I looked at those too and non of those seem to be that suitable either. In fact the list I looked at was on camskill. I dont know whether its a definitive list of winter tyres in 14's or not but non of the sizes listed on camskill seemed suitable for a lowered mark 3.

i had 175 60 14s on a squareback and they scrubbed on the rears and they caught the fronts under heavy braking at stock ride height

Basically they'll be an inch bigger than the stock g40 tyres. - so 14s doubt it!
