Title: Fuel Guage In The Dash
Post by: gavin.starr on November 08, 2010, 10:36:38 AM
My fuel tank is actualy empty when my guage reads a quarter tank is this a common fault, or is it something i need to take a deeper look into.

I'd say it's pretty common on all MK3s for the fuel gauge to be inaccurate. An option would be some delicate bending of the float arm on the fuel tank level sender in the tank itself (access underneath the rear seats) to get a more accurate representation.

That's exactly what I did, I kept breaking down out of fuel so I bent the float arm. Been fine since.

so im going to be bending it down towards the bottom of the tank to fool it into thinking it has more in the tank.

I think you want to be bending it upwards to make it think that it has less in the tank (as you're showing a quarter of a tank on empty).

At least that's how my tired brain understands it atm.
