Title: PSD Bottom Toothed Pulley
Post by: JregGT on September 16, 2010, 05:46:28 PM
Evening folks, slowly working my way over the engine, before it goes into the car, and on decent inspection of the bottom toothed pully, it looks to be massively worn. But its worn so perfectly, its almost as if it should be that way. Since buying the engine, i've gone back over the last 40+ engine pages, and i'm sure i saw somewhere, that if an incorrect belt was fitted, the PSD pulleys would wear.
I wondered if anybody had a picture of a new, or good pulley they could post for me just to compare. Hopefully i've managed to get a picture of my pulley on the bottom of this post! Edit: Photobucket is not playing ball, but should be up later!
Just after peoples opinions, and if it is poop'd as i very much suspect it is, the best place to get a replacement.

Cheers folks Rich

Need to see a pic really. The later alu psd pullies would wear quite badly when the wrong belt tooth profile is used, the earlier steel ones are a lot stronger.

This is the Bottom Pulley, it seems to have a lip on the inside of the pulley, and the tooth profile doesn't seem to match the alternator Pulley.

Pictures looked good on camera, but are poop on photobucket, so i'll take a couple more tonight, but hopefully you can see what I mean.

Cheers fellas Rich

Thats had the wrong belt profile to cause wear like that. That crank pulley is full round tooth whilst that alternator pulley looks like half round tooth, so not surprising :o

The lip on the bottom pulley shows you what the original profile was, so it's gone badly wrong. Looks like an overtight belt.

Cheers for the replies folks, confirmed what i thought unfortnuately. I know PSD has gone bump, are there any companies out there making replacements, or is going to be easier to get a new Pulley machined up Or am I looking at a complete new set??
