Right, picked up this charger with the rest of the clobber from FORCEDINDUCTION off here, dam good deal we got. The main problem is this charger, service historys good and well within its next one. The owner before last managed to wear a hole in casing as shown in the above pics. My thoughts were just to change the casing for a different one and inspect aswell as  asking pete for advice ( I only live in crooks which isnt far to penistone) and to have a nosy. Just thought i'd pop it up here n see what y'all think.

Cheers

Etches

pop in some time - or i'm often in crookes.  I'll tell you what's fucked on it (whether its just the casing or whether scroll etc is shagged)

Hiyaaaa

Its my charger :)

From what we know the hole was worn in by a rad being too close, or something along those lines. so i imagine its just the casing. however one cannot help but wonder about shrapnel. the worn bits have to go somewhere.

Etches has the charger with him, but his G is currently... 'off the road'

i imagine though by now he would have Pm'd you!

Ummmm that does look like melt rather than shatter damage. Radiator wouldn't get hot enough to do that, so could be a welder?

I have a spare casing for that side if thats all thats kaput ;)

from what was said, sounded like the rad rubbed and rubbed and eventually wore through?

although i could imagine it would take a lot of rubbing to get through metal. regardless of what you, or your rad, were made out of!

it looks repairable to me! I think you could tig weld the hole and reshape the inside! It looks like it rubbed on the metal cover that holds the fun! but I have no idea how these two came close enough!

got to be careful welding - if it deforms with heat even a few mm it'll grenade the charger.

I'd not even bother trying to weld it up, casing halves are usually obtainable, it's the scrolls that are harder to find on their own.  Take Pete up on his kind offer and let him have a butchers inside, he knows his way round the internals of chargers!

my monies on it grenaded, the hole looks too big for "wear" you'd have noticed and removed it long before that damage.  8) ::)

I`d weld it.

yet to try a welded up charger half.  Where the apex seals sit, if it distorted by 1mm with heat, will foul on the scroll - which would be an expensive mistake if they did!!
he's sorted another casing!
