Title: coolent mixture.
Post by: GAF2 on August 27, 2010, 10:33:00 PM
Hi guys, just wondering what is the capacity of the coolent system. Got the coolent from vw G11 is it or 12 cant remember and it says two parts water to one part coolent. also how do you bleed the system? run engine up to temp with lid off expansion tank till thermostat opens then what, remove the white plug by the heater matrix and squeeze the radiator hose till all bubbles come out? fuck knows am pretty tired, lol.

cheers.

Take off the thermostat and all the system will drain...
If i were you i would go, 50/50 coolant/water mixture...
The engine will automaticly bleed the system... Just wait till the fan starts and stops 4-5 times and you will be ok...

Use the bleed screw on the heater matrix casing in the scuttle tray.

I got my rad out today, cleaned it, changed the thermostat and putted all back together! it took about four liters in it! I filled it up , waited for the thermostat to open with the cup off then added some more, sealed the cup, stopped the engine, waited until it cooled of a bit, opened the screw on the heater matrix and just squeezed the upper tube of the rad till some fluid came out of the screw! then by holding the tube squeezed (use a towel, it will still be a fair bit warm) screwed it back in! re opened the cup and filled it up until maximum! I don't know if that is the correct way of doing it but it hasn't blown up yet so I guess I did it right! I will recheck in two days to see if there is any more fluid needed as the system bleeds itself!
