Had this for a little while now. Just randomly comes on and starts flashing. Get out and check the level and its fine so im assuming its just the sensor in the tank. Doesn't always stay on and can suddenly turn off again.
Could it be anything else before i hunt out a new sensor for it? When it comes on, the temperature doesnt rocket up and everything else is fine.
cheers

Wiring baybe, a bad contact or something like that!

Well i'm gonna splash out and buy a new expansion tank as mines getting abit grungey and if it still does it after, then i know it maybe the wiring.

It's only monitoring level so I'd unplug the cable, I presume the light will then go on. Short the pins with a paperclip & electrical tape to insulate it, the light should go out. Now drive for a week or so manually keeping an eye on the coolant every now and again and watch out for the flashing light. If it stops flashing it's the expansion tank level meter or contact. If it keeps flashing it's the loom.

Might just need the system bleeding. If your system needs a real scrub out try "lemon acid" from your local Merc dealer; it's what they use after head gasket failures to ensure clean sensors. About £12 part no. A 000 989 10 25 11. Works a treat.

cheers guys. I'm sure us peeps with the problems will give it a go.
I think there maybe a merc dealer in peterborough (any idea Alex?) so i'll pop along at some point.

its the clocks, mine did the same and i changed the tank, used a paperclip to connect the wires up and still flashed, changed the clocks and it was fine.
