Title: Throttle cable problem
Post by: Jezza-7 on July 15, 2010, 11:11:47 PM
When driving a few weeks ago, i put my foot down on a little country road and had a sudden loss of power, as 1st i thought it was the toothed belt. But when i stopped the engine was running as normal. I looked around the throttle area and saw that the cable had come off the bracket thats attached to the inlet mani. The rubber grommet appeared to be fine so i put it back in, no problems.  until about half hour of driving it did it again. The cable when housed correctly isn't in a straight line to the throttle body, the cable comes out of the bulkhead, goes down to the bracket then from then goes up a little to the throttle itself.

I think it needs a new grommet as the current one is weak.

Anyone had similar problems?

Cheers

Is the fixing tensioner clip still on the cable at the back of the grommet?

Yeah it is.

Looking at the grommet from the front of the car, it is on the bulkhead side of the grommet, not the engine side. Is that where it is supposed to be?

The grommet should be a push fit in the bracket; maybe your's is fubarred. Tensioning the cable's easy; pull the cable towards the bulkhead and put the clip up close to the bracket.

Are you using a gt inlet?
I found ont the gt inlet the mount sits lower than the g40 inlet which caused the throttle cable to pull out, nothing 2 washers and a longer bolt didnt sort out  :)

Yes i am, thats prob why. Never had a problem till now and the inlet has been on since october last year. I think the engine mounts are on the way out too, which prob wont help.
