I was thinking of investing in an oil cooler kit, i was just wondering where you would mount it if you had a standard or uprated intercooler. If you could post some pics i would be very gratefull.

escort cosworth mate, got a charge cooler built into it too ;)
Mine's tucked in between the radiator and the bumper iron. You can see it just below the number plate here:

mines sat up behind where the passenger side fog light would be.
Did anyone buy their own heat exchanger and do their own work or did you all buy a kit??
If you did It yourself how did you go about it??
Thanks for the advice and pics
I bought my own heat exchanger, thermostatic sandwich plate and got the pipework made up at a hydraulic pipe place in Rochdale.
Then for mounting the heat exchanger, got the welder out and made some brackets.
i done the same as haysey too. i used a vauxhall thermo plate though, free off a friend, there on red tops and let turbo's. think they are on some early 2.0 8v's too
when mounting the cooler behind the passengers fog light, did you have to cut holes for the pipes or can the be routed to the sandwhich plate without cutting etc.
cheers
no you dont need to cut anything mate, there is a gap behind the headlight and then bellow the chassis leg
sweet mate, will be fitting my kit nxt week once i get sum bracketts sorted
How much money did you boys save by make shifting your own kit??
the only thing I had to cut was the bumper iron, I'm trying to find a pic I know I've got somewhere but can't at the moment. You can kind of see it in these pics though:

mine cost me 23 quid all in, way cheaper than 100 pound plus!
haysey them comps look class!
right guys, this thread has got me into gear to fit my kit (had it nearly a year) but went to look at my sandwhich plate and am not sure if its right, it is thermostatic controlled but to me it looks like the thermostat is in the open postion. see pic below.

also does it matter which pipe you put on to which outlet, i was thinking no because it doesnt matter which way the oil runs through the cooler?
i imagine the side of the sandwhich plate with the rubber seal on goes against the block because the filter already has a seal on it?

one last question and might be a bit stupid, with a kit fitted do you need to increase the amount oil you put in the engine or do you just continue to fill to the level on the dipstick
cheers guys

Is there not any arrows for the flow on the side?

Yes you do, but run it till the engine is warm enough for the thermostat to open as there could be as much as half a litre in the oil lines and cooler, depending on size.
cheers jezza, na no marks indicating flow jus says mocal on it. thought you would have to increase oil level just wasnt 100% sure.
anyone got any thoughts on the position of my thermostat, heres another pic
