Done about 1500 miles since I managed to get the G running ok,
Now after new;
plugs
leads
entire dizzle inc cap n arm
new coil
new relays
new fuel pressure regulator
new working C02 pot
new throttle body
new lambda
new blue temp
Its still not running properly, its like the ecu is shutting down temporarily when driving which is quite intermittant.
It makes it annoying to drive as it sends the car into a massive jerk. Anyone got any ideas?
cheers. etches
i'd check
1.voltage at battery with lights/stereo/ etc on - to make sure that its getting the right voltage - over 13v - as if not the ECU will run in limp home mode.
2. the co pot is set to roughly 550ohms as a base setting
3. the blue temp sender is working within the range as specified in the FAQ
4. all your earths, especially the charger to body are good and clean.
5. your dizzy is the correct part number for a g40
6.your plugs are correct part number for a g40.
7. your mechanical timing is correct.
8. your ignitiion timing is correct
Check the knock sensor and the wiring to it.
Well not had time to check anything yet but ;
blue temps working fine (new vag one)
C02 pot - How do you check it?
My dizzy is non vag but brand new ( could be the problem sourcing a g40 one as we speak)
plugs i have just changed to non vw ones but have improved the running, but depending on how they act with the g40 dizzy will have to see
Mech timing is correct already checked that n dizzy timing
Sam think my knock sensor is ok since the wiring looks good, although i run a alloy metal gb mount may this affect the knock sensor at all, just a stab in the dark.
will be checking the battery wed hopefully if my multimeter decides to work
dizzy could be the problem mate - it is differently spaced in the hall sender compared to other dizzys - so if it isnt the same as a G40 one - you do have a problem!
Co2 pot needs to have a resistance of around 550ohms across pins 1 and 3
as with the dizzy the spark plugs are spaced at a certain distance and is G40 specific! my G had the wrong plugs in when i bought it and it ran shite - changed the plugs...much better!
Yea i reckon mines just a standard polo one, euro car parts arnt the best for exact parts tbh
thats your problem mate! the timing it differnet on the G40 - and the hall sender is different for this reason!
Righto changed the dizzy to a g40 one seems to run better, did a check on the battery with a multimeter and the voltage drops below 13 v gets to about 9v when the stereo and fan is on. I presume changing the battery would be the first thing to try right lads?

take it off - and give it a right good charge with a decent charger - it may take charge, may not
when fully charged can see if alternator is putting right amount of juice out
the car will run like sh1t if it isnt above 13v mate. shouldnt be that low really, what about the voltage when its just the fan?
stereo could have a short and be the cause - eliminate this first by just checking the fan
and defo charge the battery up - but it should be running 14v when on, unless alternator is buggered
quick question, my G isnt the happiest atm. on idle gets 13.2v and everything on, radio, lights, fans, rear heater its about 12.2ish is that ok?
Not had time to do any shit to the battery :( my mate smashed a huge hole in his abf alloy sump so ended up helping him instead, rolling down to dc10 with it as it is tho
