Title: Gearbox oil leaking!
Post by: rcurnow on June 04, 2010, 09:20:11 AM
Hi, need some advice for my 1991 G. Keep finding puddles of oil underneath my car, but noticed it more when i leave the car in reverse.
I have now found that it is leaking around the thread of the reversing switch on the gearbox, see pic:

Would i be right in thinking that may just need taking out, cleaning up and putting back? Is this a awkward job, i.e is there gona be a lot of oil and pressure or could say a mate with a finger over the hole suffice?
Any info would be much appreciated.
Thanks Rich.

might leak out a bit...

be careful not to nip it up too tight as i've snapped one before!

it's worth draining the oil and changing it anyway if you dont know when it was last done.  oil will pour out of the hole when the switch is removed.  put some PTFE tape round it too.
