I'm wanting to put a G40 into my 6n Polo. But how do I go about it, what do I have to take into account?
Does the G40 run a complicated ECU or is it just a Fuel mapping system?
I'll do it myself but if I buy a G40 Polo, will I have everything I need?
All help and advice is much appreciated.
Cheers
Sam.
I would buy a 1.3 MK3 Polo but the £90 of changing the car over on my insurance and then buying a G40 to do the conversion would work out just as costly I would reckon. Or would it be easier to put the engine in a mk3?
I have a 6n 5dr but I dont know whether the chassic will twist under load that the G40 will produce?
the g40 is a bolt in/out job in a mk3.
In a mk4 it has been done a few times and needs an engine mount welding in. You'll also probably need a custom exhaust.
Cheers for the reply.
I'm currently trying to find someone to swap my 6n for a mk3.
What I'm worried about with putting it into a 6n is the wiring and whether the chassis will twist under load.
Anyone be able to clear up what I'll have to wire in if I was to put it into a 6n?

Why would you put a G engine in a Mk3 if you were going to buy a G40 anyway? What is the £90 for on your insurance to swap to a G40 lump?
Because of the insurance lol.
£90 admin fees apparently to change cars.
er, it'll cost a LOT more than £90 to put a g40 engine into a 6n if you are paying for it to be done.
Not sure what you really mean by does a g40 have a ecu or a fuel mapping system. Surely a fuel mapping system IS an ECU? A g40 has an ECU which does fuel and ignition mapping anyway.
I meant is it a complicated ECU to wire in because surely it'll have to be wired into the ECU that is in there and then mapped for a G40 lump.
I know it'll cost more than £90 to put the G40 in lol. Thats how much more it is to change to a new car on my policy.
I'll be putting the engine in myself. But I know about conversions on other cars like Vauxhall ,Honda and BMW that seem to be a lot more simpler to do conversions on than Volkswagens when putting engines into newer cars.
Your talking about getting a G40 lump to talk to the 1.6 8v ECU? No you'd put the G40 ecu in to match the engine.
And from what I can make out you are talking about not declaring the G40 engine you'd put into a normal 1.3 Mk3? In that case you wouldnt be insured at all and might as well not bother having any?
You're not really making any sense.
Right, I just want to know how hard is it to put the G40 into a 6n and what is involved. Not much not to understand really.
my first post! its a weld in engine mount, then tackle the wiring, which i odnt believe si too difficult
if the 93 in your user name is your year of birth you'll be looking at a fortune to insure a g40!
Why not just buy a G40? ???
Thats what I was trying to ask him. Sounds to me from what I can work out on here and the thread he has on club polo that he is trying to pull a shonky on the insurance. I apologise if that is not the case but thats how it appears.

I got the same idea. seems like one of those 'i want to turbo my 1l 6n; how easy is it?' threads.
answer, if you have the right kit and engine conversion is still. A lot of work.
I want to know what else apart from the drivers side engine mount and ECU will need changing? I doubt the ECU is a plug and play jobby? And a manual wire in job. Just things like that I need to know, best to have a rough idea before hand.
hi mate just fitted a g40 in my 6n polo but u have to weld a flat plate to the chassie so the mount will fit and u have to use g40 ecu some of ur old loom of and use some of the g40 loom just have to put a couple of wires 4 starter and that and just join the rest of the g40 loom to ur original ecu loom
