Title: HT leads. VW want £139!! where does everyone else buy theirs?
Post by: g40willa on June 01, 2010, 01:46:15 PM

Hi all, I went to Ridgeway VW in Newbury, Berkshire this morning to order some HT leads and the guy told me they would cost £139, which is around £100 more than I payed last time I brought them. Can anyone else point me in the direction of a decent supplier? I don't want any fancy Nology leads or anything special, just the OEM leads.

Cheers guys.

Sweet potatoes, I'm wary of GSF sometimes, does anyone else think that the quality of their goods is deteriorating over the years?

totally - even the guys in my local gsf say that.  Just ask for decent quality ones

pretty annoyed that they now sell "Carlube" oils, that sucks.  But for things like leads, as long as you ask for the german made Beru or BBT ones then they will be OEM quality.  I've never really trusted them for things like wheel bearings, they swap and change suppliers constantly depending on who gives them the best price.  This means one day you might get decent stuff and the next....god knows.  I've only ever bought rear bearings from there as they are so easy to replace I'm not that fussed if I do only get 10k use out of them.  F**ked if I want to be doing front bearings or gearbox bearings that often though.

As said above they seem to be getting worse. The carlube thing just smacks of getting the cheapest stuff in. If they are doing it with oil what else are they doing it with. I always check the quality of most stuff as some of the stuff they do is awful.

I ended up getting my money back on a cheap lambda for the VR last year as it lasted less than a year. He gave me the Bosch replacement at cost but doesnt account for the wasted petrol when the other one failed, time/cost fitting it etc. The blokes at my local gsf are pretty good but even they arent as good as they used to be from when I first started going in!

I thinks the £139 might have been for individual caps, then a roll of HT lead cable, i.e. a 50m roll or something.
Cheers guys.

when I asked my local VW dealers about leads a few years ago they told me it was approx £30 PER lead and it's the same for any mk3 polo (since they all use the same leads).  I'd suggest that someone is making a mistake, either the person saying it's per lead or your dealers which are selling a set for £30.  I've always just bought leads from GSF.
