Evening boys...
found me a cheap cupcar box with gemini (either phase 1 or 2 diff) which the guy claims to be running a shorter fd, as it tops out well below what a std atv usualy does..
So thinking out loud here, was this done back then, or is it a modded box using an alternative fd? or could it be a shorter 5th?
I'm not sure as the final drive obviously needs to be bolted and not pressed, but i am aware that 4.267 fds are available so lets hear what you guys think.
Thanks in advance!
well the final drive consists of both the crown wheel and the gear on the end of the output shaft, you can't just swap one of them as they wont mesh. They are matched pairs.
It's perfectly possible that whoever had the box swapped the output shaft and the crown wheel though. Means you've got to swap all the gears off the output shaft to the new shaft though if you want to swap back.
I know that both the shaft and crown wheel are matched, but i was wondering what other ratios are compatible with the gemini diff itself. As far as i was aware most fd's for the 085 box were pressed?
Also, what ratios were cupcar boxes? i assume stock atv?
cup cars had to use totally standard gearboxes, just with the option of fitting an LSD.
You can use the final drive from a GT (which will give almost the same end result as using an entire GT gearbox) or most of the mk4 polo final drives can be used.
