Title: Rev counter
Post by: Jezza-7 on May 23, 2010, 02:12:07 PM
Don't really know what's going on but the rev counter keeps dying then after a few mins it works again. Then it migh come back on then go off. Any ideas?

I thought thats what you ment at first. That could be causing a problem with my car electrically. My lights dim down a little when i put the blowers on and when i put the blowers on yesterday the rev counter stopped, then started when i turned them off. Might think of replacing that. Got a new battery in and new bosch alternator to go on this weekend. Did checks with multimeter and everything reads good.

Clean your earths up, and the bolts/ nuts holding them. Or better still throw them in the bin and get some nice fat new ones to replace the pishy std VW ones!
Applying a smear of copper grease to either side of the cable is always good too, prevents corrosion setting in for a while!

Ok, now my g40 is not starting at all. Could that possibly mean that the coil is gone? Fuel is getting there just no spark. Or possibly the hall sender?

I would try a coil if you have one spare. Did you not have a problem with hall sender a month or so ago?

Yes i did have a problem with the hall sender and it was that. The coil is fine.

Swapped over the whole distributor and hall sender and runs well.
