Title: idle probs
Post by: darrenaa on May 18, 2010, 08:55:07 PM
hi just rebuilt top end on my g40..not been run for about year before that,,all back together now car is idling up and down between 1000rpm/1500rpm but runs perfect when driving.,,, i did do a bit of porting work on inlet manifold and charger outlet....i have adjusted idle semsor and dizzy doesn't really make much difference to the up and down revving

any help would be much appreciated cheers

did you use new gaskets on the inlet manifold/throttle body?  might be a slight air leak

all new gaskets expect throttle body one which i had to make out of kellogs box lol for time being other 1 got misplaced n thrown away i think..ill try a new one of these then..cheers

today i tried this vacuum pipe that links to ecu took that offf it was ok bit lumpy put back and idle up and down again :s

that's for the map sensor, it's essential or the ecu wont really know how much fuel to put in.  removing it will just put it into limp-home mode where it ignores most sensors and just dumps loads of fuel in.  It does suggest an air leak somewhere if the idle is high all the time but did you set the ignition timing with a proper timing light to 5deg +/- 1 deg?

idles ok when on choke then soon as chokes off it has a pulsing idle between 1000/1300 rpm, i did not use a proper timing light, just marked it up but that could explain it then probally slightly out. as i did use a top end off another car n rebuilt that had it pressure tested thats all good.does smell quite fuelly tho so.. jabbasport next week it is then lol

marked what up?  The only way to set the ignition timing is with a timing light
