Post by: Jezza-7 on May 07, 2010, 02:02:12 PM
Is it an easy job to replace both pumps?

Good, someone at a garage said it would be best to remove the fuel tank and do it but i thought that seems to much work.

Well the tank one took about half hour this morning, tested it after fitting to make sure it was working and it was fine. When i replaced the in line pump that was a different story. Got it on with new clips etc and then put the relays in, turned ignition on and i herd the in tank pump suck up fuel but nothing from the in line pump. Turned key to start car and nothing, just kept turning over. So i gave it a few mins and still nothing. So i undid the pipes to the pump and got my mate to turn ignition on and fuel came out so i know 100% sure that the in tank pump was working. I connected the supply pipe to the in line pump and, turned it over and no fuel came out the outlet of the pump. Put the old pump back on and fuel came out,  so my new pump from VW which i paid £167 for is crap! Think i will be seeing them monday morning!

i was thinking about changing my fuel pumps but is this now a prime example of 'if its not broke dont fix it', although i think you have been unlucky to get a brand new fecked pump?

Yeah im kinda of thinking the same but if your pump does start to go and you dont know it may run lean and melt a piston, happened to my mate.

i've got 300cc injectors and ive still got the G40 pump. pump will be good for 200bhp. After that, you'd probably need to upgrade.

Has anyone replaced the fuel pump with an uprated one, if so which one have you used and also do you replace both (fuel tank and inline). Also which should I replace with highest priority.

Also last question: what LPH did you guys use? For example 255lph.

Thanks for advance
