Title: Block rebuild kit?
Post by: Richg40 on April 13, 2010, 10:07:05 PM
What are people's previous experiences with non-gen' block rebuild kits? Gaskets, seals etc. I need one asap.

no issues with gsf stuff myself although at least one of the end cover gaskets is vw only.

Don't suppose you have a gsf part number do you?

there is a a 'conversion' gasket set by elring listed on euro - but out of stock.  I think that this is the bottom end set - well like sump/oil gaskets as I just won one  on ebay

That's what I need, a complete bottom end gasket set. Is it just the same as a GT bottom end gasket set? I can't be bothered to spend time on the phone to VW parts quoting this that and the other part number of each and every gasket. I just want a set on a piece of cardboard wrapped in cling film!

OK, I wasn't aware such a thing as a bottom end gasket-set existed, I've always just ordered the individual parts, mainly from GSF and then one or two pieces from VW for VW-only bits (only one of the end cover gaskets springs to mind).

That's the kidda. Any numbers on it? Comes with the rear main seal? The one VW will only sell with the complete plate for about 80 quid?

VW do kits for bottom end and cylinder head. You get everything with these, even bits you don't need for the other engine variants.

Not according to my dealer they dont. They say all gaskets and seal for the bottom end must be ordered separately.
