Title: blown supercharger
Post by: liam on March 28, 2010, 06:51:10 PM
my supercharger blew up on the motorway last week while doing about 80mph,it was only 1700 miles old after being rebuilt by jabbasport,(dickheads!!). when i took the supercharger off an removed the boost pipes their was metal shards everywhere.

can this be rebuilt or is it finished, thanks, liam.

you'd need to open it up to find out but if there are metal shards around then it's going to be fucked really. There might be some parts of it that are salvageable.  You could do with finding out what the cause was too.

I wouldnt say its jabba's fault either. You might have not run it in properly or the lader could of sucked something like a stone?

But as hayesey said cant tell whats gone untill its open.

I might have a spare one soon but not sure if i wanna sell as i want a spare.

for the first 1000 miles of its life it never went over 3000rpm and the week before it blew up i was using it daily and it was fine,
could it of happened through oil starvation maybe, ill crack it open and get a pic up tomorrow

at last, got some pics up, not that it matters now but here they are anyway.

Did you blow through the oil lines before you fitted it?

all the oil lines, feed and return were new when the engine and charger was rebuilt 1700 miles ago.

i can get some pics up tomorrow, ive already cracked it open and it looked finished,
ive found someone with another one but its got a hole in the case where the radiator had been relocated and was hitting against it,
is it hard to swap the case over with my old case

when you say 'finished' do you mean one casing is finished or the scroll?

they aren't too hard to swap bits about.  but you'd want to ensure whatever you put in yours has new bearings in it.

its the scroll that has smashed to smitherines, to be honest though pete i would much rather have your fully serviced one now that has come available, thanks.
