Title: G40 Charger rebuilt?
Post by: Charlie VW on March 20, 2010, 07:10:08 PM
Hi,

Ive recently brought a G40, it has a Jabba R1 Supercharger that has done around 10,000 (receipts to prove etc), Although its done this over around 5 years (been sat up for the last 3 years).

Does anyone think this is due a rebuild because its been sat up or is it Ok because its only done 10,000 miles?

Is there anything i should check? Belts, etc?

Many thanks,

G40 Novice, Charlie vw

Personally if i had the money to do it i would get it serviced purely cause you dont know if it is 10k or motorway driving or 10k of thrashing it.
Jabba do it for £340 and if you speak to brian he will pay for return postage which it was he is doing for me.

The small cog belt is easy to check and its worth replacing if the charger is off. Get a new one from peteg40 on the for sale section http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,780.0.html

I would say, although im not 100% sure that the R1 charger/PSD bull blend should be done every 20k if your running a 65mm pulley as standard it is 40k-45k, but when i asked vw they said it shoudn't have to get serviced.

Have a look inside the intake and exit for and damage to.

10,000 should be ok - but i'd change the external timing belt (club g40 can supply) its only a 2 min job when its off.

vw regard it as a sealed for life item... i.e. when it breaks get a new on(£1600 ish from vw)
