Hi there,
Im new here . I have a seat leon cupraR at the moment but am looking into a weekend, second car to play about with .
The G40 seems like a good option nice and light and lots of potential. The only issue i have is budget,Would i be really optimistic if i wanted to find one for around 1400-1500 ? or do they come up within this price.
Let me know guys cheers
they come up for that price yea but you really get what you pay for with a G40 imo
Ok so what would i be looking at for that sort of doe ? . As i said im not going to use it loads is just a bit of fun really and i like my classic dubs !
There is this one that recently failed to sell on Ebay:

Doesn't look too bad to me (apart from a few rust spots), and comes with R1 induction kit and front mount intercooler. You could probably get it for £1600. Really cheap ones (£1000) are likely to be more expensive in the long run. A charger overhaul is a few hundred quid and the various small parts soon add up if you need to replace them. The correct gearboxes are hard to come by if there are problems with it. £2000 should get a reasonable car. Mileages are generally high now, but don't be put off if it looks like it's been looked after. Mine is near 150K miles and uses no oil on the original engine. As they are now relatively cheap there are a few about that have been thrashed, run on the cheap, and given some nasty modifications.
Check the insurance out as well, particularly if you intend to modify it. I have a MK4 Ibiza Cupra which I bought new. This was cheaper to insure fully comp (valued at £15K) than my slightly modified G40 was TPFT (valued at £2K).
