Was driving back and was going through some country roads so i thought i would have a little fun. After the country roads finished i was back on main raod and accelerated quickly and as i changed from 1st to 2nd gear and accelerated it died. Pulled over to the side of the road and looked underneath for oil loss or fuel loss but there was nothing. Tried to start at it was giving me nothing. Tried a few more times then thought about calling the AA. After 5 mins it started and ran fine all the way back home. Anyone have any idea what it could be?
hall sender?
Ok, i have just done resistance checks on ignition coil and injectors, all within limits.
Hall sender? Im not 100% sure on this, i know where it is but what is its purpose.
Its the plug that goes into a connection just above distributor.
the hall sender is inside the dizzy, its a part of the dizzy infact.
Mine failed on me when i was at the pod, died for a while and then came back to life and then died again on the way home several more times.
That sounds like what my problem is. It has cut out 3 times but only for 1/2 a second and then today it completly cut out.
Thanks for the help Robin.
Are they easy enough to replace? Not much info in the haines manual.
its 100% the hall sender, mine did the same, the engine cuts out every so often and then kicks back in after a second or so. when it started to play up it gave up ghost for 10mins and then was ok.
its an arse to change in the dizzy, i ended up buying a 2nd hand dizzy as i broken the new hall sender fitting it!
Awesome, my car does excatly the same. i know a lad who is selling breaking there g so i might get in touch and get the whole lot off him. Cheers Robin.
the pin on mine was as if i was welded in! used everything to smack it out and it ended up mullering the whole dizzy! cut my losses and bought a 2nd hand one for £40!
I will have ago i think and see what happens. GSF sell them for £75 and VW just quoted me £51 so im gonna stick with vw.
Just a quick one, what is the purpose of the Hall Sender?
tells the ecu when to fire the spark & injectors
Roger! ;D
Are all hall senders the same on the earlier polo's and mk4's?
Cheers for the info. That is very handy!
There was a link on here that somone put up about the differences between dizzy's but it's not here anymore. Could somone post it back on here? Cheers!
