Post by: chrisd on March 10, 2010, 04:59:58 PM
hi guys(and girls lol) , just fitted a g40 engine into my loon and took it for a spin only for 10miles down the road it done a piston. the mechnic picked it up today and stripped it to find a piece missing .(i have read dirrt thread but got a little confused by it , funny mind its cyl 3). basically im wondering what you guys would do as im expecting the guy i brought the engine off to phone me soon to discuss. the engine is that out of the dubmasters challenge and is believed to have various things done, but can not confirm this .pls help only had it on the road for 15mins and im missing her already
cheers chris

Did you fit G40 fuel pumps to the shell you dropped the engine in? The GT and G40 inline fuel pump is a different item to that on lesser Polos.

It's worth getting your injectors cleaned whilst you're at it too, it's cheap enough and will confirm whether the piston meltage was caused by a dodgy injector or not too.

Was it pinking like a bastard on boost?

it did seem slight hesitant on acceleration but then picked itself up and was driving ok , seemed like a loss in power .

no idea whats missing but sounds like you melted a piston as you were leaning out.

yes using the wrong fuel pump can cause this, you're not the first.

Buy and fit a G40 fuel pump, and sort the engine.
