as title says does anyone know how much a g40 rad is from vw or where would the best place be to get a proper g40 rad???
thanks in advance
steven
If im honest every time this comes up I always wonder why a G40 needs a bigger rad? In traffic it should require less cooling than a standard engine, and mine always runs super cool at speed and thats with a standard polo one.
Did the GT also have the bigger rad? I could understand that.
gt and g40 have the same rad, it's no bigger than the normal ones but has more, smaller tubes so a better cooling efficiency. Most g40s are prob fine with it yeah, my water cooled turbo manages fine on track days with a normal g40 rad.
No im on about it having a bigger rad than the normal polo as standard.
I think the bigger rad was designed for the GT with its high CR. And they put it on the G40 just because they could.
1341's do run hotter well mine used too but the rad was on a bit of a angle
ive just bought one from vw. 96 quid.

i know what you mean but the gt/g40 rad is the same size as normal polo ones, the only difference in it is as I said above. The only mk3 with a bigger rad is the diesel one which was never sold in the uk.
Yeah I know its not physically bigger, just my bad wording. I guess I was just saying that a normal polo one should be fine and any overheating problems shouldnt be tackled by fitting an uprated rad as some people seem to do.
Sorry for all the confusion. Just me generally being a spazz.
ok i see, yeah tube surface area is bigger :)
Bigger rad is needed when pounding along at 130mph+ speeds for any length of time, especially with a K03 running water cooling and a fair chunk of boost.
Most people running large power will also have a nice big intercooler blocking and heating up any air lucky enough to hit the radiator!
hey peeps i have a Q. is it a good idea to put a oil cooler on a standered G40 this is my first project and need some advice!
yes it is a very good idea they really should of had on from the factory
steve
thanks what would a good place to start as i have looked around but still cant get my head around it.
on a standard g a 13 row cooler from mocal will be fine it worked well for me on a g40 with around 150 bhp
steve
thanks, when i mount it does it fit where the original came from or does it need relocating?
does what fit where the original was? radiator? you're just fitting a replacement one arent you so yeah it goes where the standard one does. if you mean oil cooler then there is no oil cooler fitted to a g40 so you need to find somewhere to fit it.
