Hi Guys
what kind of oil is best to put in G engine ?
Mineral, semisyntetic or full syntetic?
I know that grad is 10W40 but also which Brand ? Shell, Castrol, Valvoline, Motul ?
Tks
I use synta silver from VW i think that is 10W40
i am also using the synta silver at the moment but i am finding it a bit thin because i think its fully synthic. Am goin for castrol magnetec next i think, its semi synthic.
cheers grant
My vw says they dont do syntha silver anymore...

When i spoke to my mate he said synta gold is full synthetic and synta silver is semi synthetic.
I was thinking of using castrol as i used it in my other polo and i never had any problems.
he might be right because i couldnt actually see it saying fully synthic anywhere on the container but it definatly seems thinner. yeah am goin for the castrol.
Well i bought 5 litres last month from my local VW and got a free filter to go with it.
cheers
Can i just say that after checking my oil today and finding it very low, as in not on the dipstick, i wouldnt reccomend using synta silver. I think it is too thin and personally think that after doing an oil change 3000 miles ago that something isnt right. And after speaking to someone today i think that im gonna go for 10w60.
Is there anyone that uses a thicker oil?
synta silver isnt too thin, it's 10w/40 which is the correct grade. 10w/40 specifies the oils viscosity at two temperatures (cold & hot basically). It doesn't matter what make it is, if it's 10w/40 then it's 10w/40, it can't be "thinner". If your engine is using oil then there is something wrong with it.
synta silver is what you'd get at vw until fairly recently until they switched to a different make. I think it's Fuchs which is what you get at GSF nowadays & what I use, again, 10w/40 semi-synth.
I listen a lot of stories nd people are saying don't use full synt, use semi synt or even mineral oil.
first I put Castrol Magneteck it was ok but get emulsion on my oil cap. than find out if you buy Caastrol for Austrian market you will hv this problem.
Then I moved to Shell Hellix plus - semi synt but temperature was over 120°C
yesterday I put inside Motull Competition full synt 15W50 - good thing is when you are driving normly - not over 3500 rpm oil temp is 70°C (which is god cos in summer when temp is is around 35°C temp of oil wont be more than 100°C) nd when you are running in full trothle oil temp is 90°C nd oil pressure is always more than 5 bar
would any of you guys switch to a different oil for a higher powered g40? im runnin an eaton with smaller pully so i must be around the 180 bhp mark and my g does get quite hot so am wonderin if i should change from synta silver to something a bit better but not sure what to go for
steven
no i'd stick with 10w/40. what auro is saying doesnt really apply to uk climate.
10w60 is worth a think about if spending a lot of track thrashing miles.

Try Motul 300V Competition. It's ester oil and is for tuned engines. It is not cheap.
