Don't worry, there's nothing wrong with yours! Standard hose is the convoluted type, in rubber. The shape allows some engine movement relative to the charge air cooler, which is fixed to the chassis. The original rubber ones tend to split, and are not that cheap to replace. As it is for a specific application few silicon hose places make them, and they are even more expensive than VW. The silicon one above is a suitable replacement, instead of spending 70 quid on a proper convoluted silicon hose, such as this

The other option is to cut down a metre length of wire reinforced flexible hose, this will be better at coping with high boost levels but will not be such a neat finish. Most of the slicon hose manufacturers will supply this.

So those 45 deg bends actually fit with standard intercoolers then?

It depends on you're pulley set up. I don't know if a bend like that will suit mine, I used a straight length but with an extra hose clip in the middle to stop it kinking. Not sure what I'll replace it with when I put the car back together though.

So would the one from the g site be ok for a toothed setup?

As i beleive reading some where that with a smaller pulley the standard pipe wont fit as it is too short.

Can't say about using it with toothed pulleys, I have neither!

I believe the standard rubber pipe was fine with mine and a 65mm pulley. So long ago though!
