can any body help i've got a golf mk1 with G40 supercharge engine, now that i decided upgrade my coil to fit MSD Blaster 2 Coil the problem is i've got the normal g40 coil which comes with module (electronic puls signal) how do i fit this new coil or do i give up and use the original part or go for MSD Blaster SS Coil 1 please help? ???
Need the amp module from a Golf. Looks like a 2" square ally backed plate with an electronic box on the front, basically the front off a stock Polo coil.
thanks a lot dude, so i can use the front of my coil and wont loose any voltage to power up the new msd coil.
I've fitted an Nology coil to mine. I just used the kit from the 8v Golf GTI with Digifant (107 ps)
Can anyone confirm that these aftermarket ignition coils offer any real benefits or improvements over a new O.E. standard one?
i guess the real benefits are that a MSD coil is not a 20 years old design but more reliable modern design that can deal with high performance engines. but most will argue that a new polo coil is up to the job for most performance G40's!

yeahp.
i fitted a mk2 golf GTi 8v digifant coil and ignition amp to a friends mk3 polo, it made absolutely no difference, except the big bosch coils die less (unless you wire + and - up the wrong way round...!!)
how many of the 160bhp+ polos have a standard coil? most i imagine.
I did this to mine a few years ago when it was the latest in thing, I never noticed any difference.
This might sound daft, but i wonder if with a bit of hacking you could seperate the standard polo coil into two bits, and wire up a normal coil in place of the crappy block thing.
Why is it a "crappy block thing" though Tommo?
I can understand like in Yoof's situation where he is running nitrous, but I always thought a new O.E. coil was supposed to be fine (like the inline fuel pump) for even very high power G40/turbos?
Anyone have actual proof of otherwise?
Yeah i had this topic very recently. Conclusion was to stick with a OE version. As Richard says, Yoof is changing his due to NOS as far as i am aware but ran a standard one with 200bhp without problems.

i did that, IIRC its the amp that usually goes so using the amp from a mk3 polo still quite sh1t
Just get a new coil for a mk4 polo, preferably a Beru one.

Yeah, ive never had any problems with it, its just that mines knocking on a little now and I too have an MSD blaster 2 kicking about as it happens. A higher power coil would mean I could get away with a slightly bigger plug gap, meaning a more efficient burn.
can i use the amp module from my stock polo g40 coil or should i get a TCI-H module and wiring loom from a MK1/2 Golf with electronic ignition?? :-\
golf one, the polo one is integral to the polo coil so you can't use it on it's own.
on early mk3 polo coils you can seperate the coil and the amp - undoing the top two nuts and the bolts (often corroded) on the back of the coil
thx.. ;D
