Title: Vibrating noise from near gearlever
Post by: Puncharado on December 18, 2009, 05:21:16 PM
Hi all, new member. My G40 has been off the road for a few years and I'm planning on sorting it out. One thing which infuriated me was a noise from under the gearlever, a kind of rattling under acceleration, but not always. I replaced all the bushes and what have you where the gearlever pivots, with no joy. I also had a good look at the linkage and found nothing wrong. Any suggestions?

Exhaust brackets or the foil heatshield?

I would say it's the exhaust hitting the car body and/or the heat shield thingy

i had something similar and it was the bracket that goes across the exhaust tunnel, hitting the exhaust right under the gearstick area.

Thanks guys. I don't remember ever looking specifically at the exhaust, any problem wasn't obvious. But that seems to be the place to check!

Usually a clamp twisted round so when the engine rocks back under acceleration, the exhaust will move a little forward and 'buzz' against the exhaust tunnel brace.

Could well be it, a buzzing about sums it up.
