i think i am right in saying after the photo shoots they changed the number plates over.
but i am sure someone does have one of the press cars somewhere
Most, if not all of them were written off by journo's when they first came out if i recall during roadtesting.
I doubt Volkswagen would be too impressed with someone selling their press shots. It's frowned upon.
What website did you get that info from Rae?
it's just off the DVLA website I assume.

I've got H141 ENH (tornado red) which was one of the original press cars along with H962 DBD. My car has the fake plate H808 GNV on the front cover of What Car? August 1991. The car they actually road tested was H962 DBD (windsor blue metallic). My car is on the front cover and road tested in VW Audi Car Aug 1991, tested in Performance Car Nov 1991, and Fast Lane Oct 1991. I did see one of the later press cars for sale a while back; it had bucket seats and a few other mods. Mine is 100% original spec, currently SORNed.
That's just reminded me; there is a red G40 (sadly not mine) in the VW cars 'Top Trumps' pack. I think it was a K reg car.
