Well took car out today, and noticed a clicking noise?
hard to explain, but it sounds like an injector click, you can hear it mostly at higher revs.
But stationary, if you rev it, i cant hear it?
but take car out, you can hear it, first thought was pinking but i know it isnt, it does it even at light acceleration
its too repetitive and consistent
no change in power, it runs fine exactly same
im 99% sure it is an injector, got some spares to test
checked all leads as it defo sounds electrical, but it runs fine no problems
hmmmmmmm
stuck tappet?
yeah the speed does change with higher revs
oil change, it is due one i reckon
will give it a go
prob worth taking the tappets out and giving them a good clean in some carb cleaner I reckon.
before taking off rocker cover, take a screwdriver, hold the handle to to your ear and place other end on the rocker over one cylinder working along till you find which cylinder is giving you the problem. the ticking will be amplified if its under the rocker.
yes good idea, will check 2mrw
well i took rocker off, cleaned everything up, and it is still there
it is coming from the dizzy area, i have swapped the dizzy, still same
so last test will be the injector
if it isnt that then im gunna cry a little
cleaned everything up?!? you do know to take the tappets out and clean them you need the cam out?
ya-know.
thats what i just spent the last hour and a bit doing
properly do it is to take the tappets apart and soak them in paraffin. Put them back together and leave them to soak in oil overnight - or get new ones.
yeah well im adamant that is not the problem, its a too defined click, ive swapped the injectors, no change, it is coming form the dizzy area, no ideas now what to check
Quoteyeah well im adamant that is not the problem
I've heard that one before ;)
I've got some spare (not new) tappets you could try swapping in to see if it makes a difference.
well i took it to my garage man and he thinks it is the exhaust blowing, on one of the ports, and i kind of think he is right, as their are no changes in performance at all
so will check that at some point!
can you not feel it or hold a bit of paper and see if waft...
ah I see, yeah that can make a ticking noise, you can usually see carbon deposits around the area it's leaking from (of course, it could be underneath where you can't see easily though).
yeah it is nowhere on the top and side, cant see or feel anything, im guessing it is underneath, i will examine at the weekend, now im not on code red and allowed to drive it
I'd completely forgotten until you mentioned the exhaust, but when my manifold gasket started leaking it made a sound like noisy tappets at higher revs.
