Title: done but no boost!!
Post by: nikky on October 16, 2009, 07:24:30 PM
hey
cars finshed and running bar im waiting on a turbo chip off andy
thing is its not boosting well say a coupe of psi but nothing fast or anything
std k03 with forge actuator
to connect the actuator is it a pipe from it to the compressor housing nipple??
any ideas?
would the turbo chip do anything too boost it?
also my dipstick is poping out and spitting some oil out now and then.what could this be??
cheers

What strength spring have you got in the actuator?

Chip should be with you tomorrow (you'll need to use your G60 injectors as I said), don't advise driving it on your existing chip!

actuator set wrong and/or wrong spring? boost leak?

its got the green spring i know its the weakest but surely i should get at least 10psi?
cheers andy
i cant hear/see andy boost leaks but il double check that 2moro,,

you'll get 10psi pretty much at the most with that spring.

Yeah, I use the green spring in mine as I've got Emerald and an N75 valve for electronic boost control, so need a low 'base boost' setting. Tensioned up normally you'll get 7psi or so with a green spring, you'll need a bleed valve to hit 15psi with one I reckon!

il try a bleed valve
been playing with it and the actuator is at the most on the bar/threads and still only 9psi around
it feels really dead on boost not like a turbo should feel/go like, think il have a good look at my timing as i think that may be the problem???
killing my head all this lol
cheers lads!!

get a stronger spring, the green one is no good unless you have a boost control system like andy has in his Emerald ECU

Nikky - it'll drive like a sack of shit until you fit the turbo chip and boost switch. For christ's sake, don't drive it around on the currrent map or you'll risk engine damage!

il get a yellow spring for 1-15 i think it is?
ahhh tidy,,had the chip thismorning so il go have a play after my breaky

Massively high crankcase pressure if you're popping the dipstick out- hopefully you've not melted a piston and it's just a blocked breather.

it dont do it no more??
change too 10w/40 gtx oil as i put cheapy partco oil in and it went really thin
seems to be going fine but abit of a misfire low in the revs
running 12-15psi now

Have you wired up the boost switch yet? Need to do that at the same time as fitting the turbo chip... Set it to 6psi.

wired up yep,got in 5.30am monday morning due to car snaping a engine mount as i didt see a speed hump only going 40ish then bodged it drove 1mile odd then the alt belt come off and lost it so the battery went dead so made a belt up tryed bumping it and nothing so waited round for someone driving past and jumped it with leads but worst of all i left my £160 socket set on the road and fogot about it till i got home think im going to take it off the road for winter and 20vt it??
no luck with it lol

if you're having no luck with it, dont give it. Its not the G40 way.

Anyway, i doubt 20vt it will be any easier.

20vt it will be approx 7.8 times harder  ;D Don't mean to be rude but if you can't get this turbo conversion to work then I wouldn't even think about attempting to put a 20vt engine in to the car.  Just stick with it, teething problems are to be expected pretty much no matter how experienced you are with such things.
