Title: intercooler sprayer
Post by: vwmk3jon on October 01, 2009, 03:39:39 PM
Was watching top gear with the scooby and evo on and saw one (most like the scooby) had a button to spray water on the IC.

Would there be any benefits on a G?

Seems to be something to easily set up - 2nd washer bottle, pump, pipes and 2 washer jets wired to a button on the dash.

I've seen it done before.  I wouldn't have thought it'd make much of a difference although it will help increase the efficiency of the intercooler for a very short period after spraying it.

I'm gonna give it a go and see what improvements i get. If not, i can always use the tank for an aquamist installation in the future.

Not really much use on the road if you've got a front-mount intercooler, and banned from most track days and RWYB sessions.

These come standard on the old Celica GT4's. Probably work OK for short spints on warmer days.

Was connected to the headlamp washers on the GT4 - just there for homologation purposes for the rally cars. Useful on a hot rally stage where the cars can suffer badly from heat soak before getting the shit kicked out of them.

It's a cheap and easy mod to try anyway, maybe if your intercooler's struggling to cool the charge from the Eaton you'll see a small benefit. Give it a try and see!

There's also a CO2 based spray - which makes the intercooler cold enough for ice to form. It's called the Cry02.

Thats what i thought Andy. Seeing as the eaton set-up does get hot very easily and my OTT colour co-ordination, cant see the boost temperature being at its optimal.

Gonna raid my local scrappy this weekend hopefully for some bits. Treat the missus to a 'proper' day out! lol.

Mine works, had it on for about 3 years! no button though, I got pressure switch to kick it in on just below max boost 8).

if it finds its way into the intake it wont damage anything but it'll just go really really rich and be shit.

I thought that about too. Spraying CO2 in the engine bay area whilst driving, some will undoubtably get sucked into the air filter and reduce the burn effciency.

Irrelevant really, you'll be flowing 650cfm of air, a small amount of c02 won't make any differance!
