Title: high idling? Oil leak? Breathers? Help please :)
Post by: ben_91 on September 18, 2009, 11:42:38 PM
Hi all
My G40 is running really lumpy and doesn't idle below 1000rpm ever!
It seems to run ok but just sounds horrendous!
I've changed the lambda sensor which helped a little but not much to be honest.
I have a fair few problems with it and this only being one of them.
I'm changing the headgasket tomorrow and I have changed the seals in the supercharger because it was blowing oil out of valve at the top of the engine. This seemed to work for a while but it is now leaking again :(
There are also a lot of breathers at the bottom of the engine which I don't know what they are?

Basically what i'm asking is why the lumpy idling?
Is there something else causing the oil leak?
What are the breather pipes at the bottom of the engine - poking out of my arch?

The mods done on the car are
BRM
G60 injectors
gt inlet
de wedged throttle body
stage 4 'charger
De-cat

any help will be appreciated

Ben

If they are the mods that you've done then the problem is your ECU map, you need to get a map to suit the physical changes you done.

1. the breather pipe is probably your crank case breather venting to air.
2, have you adjusted your idle screw?
3.  What seals did you use in the charger? where from?

as far as i am aware it has had a remap after the mods, but not certain, would this be first port of call just to double check?

ok that's what i thought
Yep the screw is right out so tick over should be right down
I ordered the seals from jabbasport.

Thanks

mine idles high then drops sometimes, i think its the butterfly thats sticking in the throttle body.

if you have a suitible map then I'd look at the other possibilities, as mentioned;

If you've had oil around your intake pipes then there is a chance that your ISV is contaminated, so removal and cleaning of this can help. make sure that the idle is adjusted via the idle screw on the back of the TB, and not reliant on the throrrle stop screw on the front left of TB as this does not give accurate control/balance of airflow.

Also have a look at the idle switch on the TB, it a small micro-switch which should be press close when throttle is released, and should release a fraction before the butterfly starts to open.
