is it ok to run a ported inlet manifold i will be going bvh hopefuly over the winter just wondered if a ported inlet manifold would be benifical and where to get a decent one ??
you want the inlet manifold from a polo gt, they are bigger bore than a g40 one. I'd say it's essential if you want to reap the benefits of a big valve head.
If you are getting a BVH done then think about saving to get some porting and polishing done whilst you are there! Once you take the valves out you will see a huge shoulder above the valve seat which limits air flow hugely. You can remove a fair bit of material from this shoulder and by smoothing it off into the head bores you will create a much higher flow rate.
As haysey mentions a GT manifold is perfect for the job, if you wanna be really anal you can remove the casting marks from the inner bores and chamber below the TB but without opening it up i dont think you will achieve a great deal, an expensive exercise for not alot.
The 45mm throttle body is a huge limiting factor once you start to get down to it (especially those running the 1341's, 1473's), the 51mm de-wedged throttle body now being sold on ebay (by Juan) is probably the best bet but the quality of these are yet to be seen as i know that they are difficult to get right and seal propperly!
