Title: Ebay/Paypal...Safe?
Post by: LeonL on September 03, 2009, 11:49:03 PM
Hi,

I dont mind using paypal for small amounts of money but if i was to sell something on ebay and it went for around £500-700 what would be the best way to deal with this?

Accept the money via paypal? What safeguards do i have to avoid them claiming it back?

Other opitions? Any paypal experienced people here offer some advice?

Thanks

Leon

Not sure on sellers terms, but for buyers i know its safe if you pay with paypal through ebay. Problems occur when you don't use ebay and just use Paypal for private sales. You will not be guaranteed a full refund unless you use both ebay and paypal together. A mate of mine got skanked doing this, first sale went through on both and subsequent purchases went outside ebay. Only got refunded for the first sale when it was proved he bought all fake goods.

I'm sure there is still some sort of loophole for this if their address isnt confirmed or something. Check it out.

send nothing recorded delivery, recorded just means there is a signature for it, send it special delivery, its not that much more and you can get decent compensation for it

theres loads of loopholes with paypal, personally dont risk it mate

if they are paying you, then id say bank transfer is best

Are you selling something dodgy or not describing it correctly in the listing? If not, then you shouldn't have anything to worry about.....If i were buying something on eBay and noticed that the seller didn't accept PayPal, then i'd suspect something dodgy was going on.....

not always some people just dont agree with the money they charge, especially as its a ebay company. they dont even separate the cost of not charging you for the postage, when the fee is  sent via paypal.

Yes indeed the prices are ridiculous. Plus the fact that they force you to accept paypal and nothing else for most things these days! Complete scam.

I've heard of scams with people using paypal to their advantage in the past against legitimate sellers, I think the whole thing is a joke and shouldnt be allowed! People believe that they are 100% safe if using paypal and ebay and they are anything but and ebay ram it down your throat that its the only safe way to trade!

How do you survive? Ebay is the love of my life.

Everyone moans like fuck about it but so easily forgotten are the times spent trapsing round useless autojumbles full of cheap tools looking for that part that you just cant get hold of. If they shut ebay for a month then anyone who messes with cars would most likely commit suicide.

Think of all the stuff where you have thought 'I wonder where you get those from?' Only to buy one off ebay an hour later.
