3 guys turn up at a hotel seperately to stay the night, but there is only 1 room available. so they get offered to share the room which costs £30, so £10 per person. they agree. the next day the manager realises that they have overcharged the 3 guys. the room should have cost £25. so the manager sends a young porter up to their room with £5 refund, but the porter decides to keep £2 himself and take the remaining £3 back to the room. he gives the 3 guys £1 each.
if the room cost the 3 guys £10 each, the refund will make the cost £9 each
3 guys x £9 = £27
porter keeps £2
add both together andyou get £29
the question is, where did the other £1 go....?
its all down to misdirection, i remember this at school
the 3 guys all paid £10 = £30 total
the cost of the room ended up £25 = £5 left
porter keeps £2 and returns the other £3 = nothing left
misdirectionnnnnnn
my brain hurts
dan, your reply still doesn't answer the question!
yeah it does, the key is that the £27 and the £2 dont need to be added together!
the £1 was spent on lube for these 3 queers in one hotel room
Nowhere - if the porter kept £2 then they've all paid £9.33333333333 for the room.
DK is right, the bit at the end where it says £9 * 3 = £27 + £2 = £29 is just there to confuse and isnt' the right way of working out what was paid. £30 originally went into the till, £5 was taken out (leaving £25 in the till), £3 refunded and £2 pocketed, £25 + £3 + £2 = £30.
the confusing bit is that £3 is given back which when split into 3 is £1 each making it £9 each but if the £3 is just added onto the £25 then the total would be £28 instead of £27 as mentioned in the post. it still confuses people including myself
also if its cost them £30 between them and £3 is given back then that also makes £27
yeah £27 is what they have paid for the room - £2 for the porter is £25. (£27-£2) is £25.
that sounds like the best way of answering it
the room costed £30,
£10 pounds each,
minus the £5 refund = £25,
£25 divided three ways = £8.33333'
porter keeps £2,
gives £3 back,
£1 pound each,
so the room costs them £9.33333' each.
3x £9.33333' = £28 + £2 pounds that the little robbing bastard had,
totals at £31?
tell me were that extra pound came from??? :D
