Got my alternator that i needed now, but struggling to put it on the charger bracket, i know it goes beneath the charger but there dusnt seem anywhere for a bolt to go through the charger and into the bracket, anyone got any pics?
I dont have etka so i would have used that!
cheers people
There should be a small hole on the right and left side on the lower section of the mount,. When you put the bolt through youll need a spacer but as you can see anything will do, I used some bolts and a washer. Maybe pop to your local VW garage and have them show you a picture on ETKA, also probably best to get the bolt from them
there is also another mounting point underneath but the nut and bolt is much shorter than this one
Any one got any proper etka pics?
or photos
cheers guys
what rae posted is the pic from etka. all etka is is a parts catalogue, it's not a repair manual.
I know my mate downloaded it, got most of the charger drawings and a topside engine one, just thought that there may be a more specific G40 one thats all.
Having got the alternator the bolt and one of the bushes only to find out that the other one is no longer made,

I have used washers (which is fiddley as!) but it still moves a fair bit.
Is this ok, or what should i do about it.
Cheers lads
Bushes 5 and 7 which Rae posted in that vagcat diagram are semi permanent in the G40 engine mount. You can knock these either way to get fine alignment for the pulley system. Bush/spacer 11 is the one which i replaced with a new one from VW last year.
They dont make the spacer/bush 11 any more since a couple of weeks ago thats the problemo
Rae to the rescue eh. Used the washers as you can see in the photo, but the alternator is still wobbly i mean like can slightly move
Is there any other stabalisation bolt on the alternator as mines just resting on the oil filter, i mean other than the belt
when its on,
Will try tightening the bolt when i get back home from work
there is also a point underneath the alternator which secures it
im getting this same problem myself
Yep, there is a lower fixing arm. Parts 10, 12, and 19 on the vagcat diagram (although the arm in that picture is the non G40 one with the belt tensioner in it)
Need the lower fixing arm :(
