Title: Stand Alone Charger Oil supply pumps
Post by: cheddarcheese on July 30, 2009, 09:42:03 PM
I am looking for pumps to work with my PSD Stand Alone oil supply and idea's of cars with electric oil pumps that may be able to get from a scrappy?

Probably my next mod. and like you looking for a pump. I've been thinking of using air-tool oil and an in-line diesel fuel pump. There should be plenty about but they might be a bit too high pressure. Google "Fuel Pumps UK" who've got a low pressure electric pump for about fifty quid that looks good to me.

Im guessing its not rocket science to rig up a pressure bypass valve though, that way you could maintain a constant pressure, rather than it dropping off when your oil got hot etc. Adjustable too.

Seems some folk have used a fuel pressure reg. and I thought about it myself, but nobody's came forward with any hard information. Hot oil's a different proposition than cold petrol. I can't find any small oil regs. on the web.

I would suggest contacting a local hydraulics specialist, they should be able to help you out with a pressure adjustable bypass valve.

That may be the way to go; certainly worth a try . Again the temp. problem might be an issue but I'll ask around.

the PSD kits used to use a facet fuel pump normally used for fuel supply with carbs.  That's what I used too. The pump isn't ideal because they're designed for flowing fuel which is much thinner.  I used compressor oil in mine and had no trouble, I ran a pressure gauge on the charger oil outlet so I could keep an eye on it.

Proper electric oil pumps are available but they tend to be £150+.  That 200sx diff oil pump sounds ideal though if you can get hold of one of them.  I would have thought a diesel pump runs waaaaaaaay too high pressure.  You want something like 20psi really.
