Post by: dub-disaster on July 27, 2009, 10:17:59 PM
ok the exahst i have fitted to my g is a s/s powerflow system 2.25 " in bore with a twin exit back box its nice and quite untill you get to 3k rpm n then its mighty noisey wich is great when your blasting round the lanes it sounds awsome but when im on the motorway trying to cruise at like 70-80 it defens me and gives me a headache wich is a real pain in the ass as going to any shows means going on the motor way ! whats the best way to quiten it down a bit without restricinting the engine , would changing the back box to a single exit one help ?? would i have to change the entire system if i how can i ensure im not going to get deafend again ??

go back to a powerflow dealer and have them fit a resonator / silencer.
it wont realy make any difference if u have a single or double back box.

have you got a straight through centre section? Sounds like you could well have. Like sinister polo says, get a silencer fitted :)

Google  !  Powerflow can tell you what you've got and what you need. I'm running 50mm and very happy with it.

there's no "volume adjustment" on an exhaust, you'll need to get extra or different silencers put on.  Or you could add exhaust packing into the silencers if they are empty but that'll involve cutting the box up, packing it and welding it shut again.

ok so i just been to my local powerflow dealer and he recommended a competley new system and reducing it down from 2.25 to 2 " bore , i think this is a bit over kill isn't it could the silencer just be changed, is my local dealer just trying to have me on should i go and try another dealer??

should just be able to change a silencer or add another silencer.

Obviously the guy will want to make a sale, but he should be able to do a box with a 50mm exit for quite a lot less than a full system.

yea i thought that but my local dealer (performance 3000 in yeovil) have a reputation for being expensive as hell and trying to sell people more than they need, but the other dealer said he would be able to put in an extra silencer or change the one ive got on at the moment as long as theres enough space, the question i have is will this result in any powerloss like now (running 150bhp ish)  or in the future when i intented on running 180 bhp ish becuase obviously i dont want to have to keep altering the exhaust system!
What exhaust systems are other people running like what bore are they? are they noisey on the motorway ? what make are they ?

I think it's a problem with powerflow. In my experience they are loud, possibly due to packing, silencer size or a combination of both. If it was me I'd go somewhere else.

You should be able to get a 2.25" system which isn't too loud. Obviously it will never be really quiet.

Mine had a powerflow exhaust on when I first got it and it was like yours, very loud worst on Motorways. I changed it to a PSD system which is alot better I can now have a conversation in the car on the motorway. I think PPP ones are pretty much the same so there probably the best to get.

I've recently put a PPP one on my car and it's a work of art.  Even my MOT tester commented on how good it was when it was up on the ramp.  Although he said it's the best thing on the car the cheeky git  ;D
