If i was to put a standard (i think its 55amp) alternator on a g40 would it run properly? or does it need a minium of 65amps
thanks
steven
I'm pretty sure you would be fine with a 55A alternator. GT's have them and seem fine. 65A would be ideal if you have plenty of interior electrics.
yoof/hayes i think rock a 55amp on their turbos.
ok cheers
cos i've have a 55amp alt on my G turbo, not managed to get it running properly yet, trying to sus out what up with it. altanator must be ok then if they're running a 55amp. altho my voltage is a bit low.
The problem is it will idle when cold for about 5 mins then it will cut out and won't idle, then i'll start it again then it will idle for about a minute and cut out. sometimes when its warmed up it will idle but its very lumpy, most of the time it just cuts out.
Also if i hold it at a constant 2000rpm the revs will dip every 4-5 seconds to about 1500rpm or lower then back to 2000rpm.
And it seems to be running a bit rich, can smell unburnt fuel.
I've put in 250cc injectors, psd turbo cam and a turbo chip off PPP to suit.
I've noticed if i unplug the blue temp sensor then it will idle fine so i changed the sensor but it made no difference
can any one help
thanks
steven
Sounds like you have answered the problem, if the voltage is low it will cause those sort of running probs.

I'll try a different alt an see what happens. funny how it ticks over ok with the temp sensor unplugged
yes you need to see a good 13v across the battery terminals with a multimeter with all the electrical things turned on or the ecu will get the hump.

getting a proper voltage from the alternator now an does cut out ;D
managed to stip down the alternator and found 2 wires were broke from the coil to the circuit board soldiered them up and jobs a good'un
