Title: Oil in boost pipes
Post by: dubface on July 13, 2009, 09:13:56 PM
Hi,

I've recently noticed a bit of oil being blown out of a join in my boost pipe.

I know this indicates a bit of a boost leak but is it normal for any oil to in the boost pipes at all? The leak is after the IC so its been blown quite a way though the system.  I have the boost return removed so I'm spraying PTFE into the charger every 1000 miles or so but my first thought was that I'm spraying to much in.  Could this be the cause or is it something else?

Any help much appreciated?

Thanks,
Jason

are you running the boost return mod?  recirculating the breather into the system? then a finger full of oil is normal.

if you are running a catch tank then it would suggest a charger oil seal has gone/weeping

Yes the boost return is removed and the crank breather is just filtered.

I think the charger has done about 15k since its last service so I'm guessing you recommend a rebuild?

Thanks

sounds like it probably could do with some seals replacing, if not a rebuild
