Hi there to all. Have been driving a 1.6 6n polo but want more power now so I have just bought a G40. Im planning on making it look standard but gonna do the engine up. Im on the look out for GT inlet manifold and lost a bid for a m45 eaton supercharger. Was wondering what other mods can be made like injectors, cams, pulleys, fuel system and any thing else really. Wanna know what people recomend doing and what other people have done so i can get an idea.
All new to this so any help would be very much appreciated. Cheers Jezza.
Welcome.
Theres lots of things to do to make your car quicker. Get the G-lader charger ported, 65mm charger pulley & chip, toothed belt kit, 250cc injectors, rebore and forged pistons to take you to 1341cc, Big valve head, aquamist, high lif camshaft, bigger front mount intercooler, dewedge the throttlebody.......................
Just dont go eaton. Its more hassle than its worth!
Great cheers for that. Gives me an idea what to look for. Why do eaton cause some hassle? Also would it be worth urgrading to a G60 charger? What is the difference between a supercharger and G lader?
What about this. http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2252.0.html
and this too http://www.polog40.co.uk/forum/index.php/topic,2237.0.html
chip & pulley is a good start although I think Paul has sold that now. I wouldn't be thinking about such major undertakings as eaton conversions right away, take it one step at a time. Chip, smaller pulley, decent exhaust, air filter derestricted etc...
Yeah wanna slowly build up but now i know where to start. I think 65mm charger pulley & chip would be good. Cheers.
Only a few things im not too sure on if someone could explain,
Big valve head,
aquamist,
high lif camshaft,
dewedge the throttlebody
I have herd of these but do not know anything about them, Cheers.
Big valve head - fit larger valves to your head to increase the cross-sectional area of the valve opening to improve volumetric efficiency http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volumetric_efficiency (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volumetric_efficiency) (VE). Normaly done along with some porting of the head.
aquamist - Water injection to keep the combustion temps down, alows you to run a more "aggresive" map and make more power.
high lif camshaft - extends the stroke of the valves improving VE, in reality though with aftermarket cams there's more to be had from the cam duration/overlap/timing than the higher lift.
dewedge the throttlebody - remove the 2 restrictive wedges from the throttle plate in the throttle body. They're there to provide a progressive throttle engagement but do restrict the throttle bore at WOT. Remove the leading edge one only for a 50/50 compromise!
the throttle body is another thing thats not expensive but the BVH aquamist etc are getting expensive but it depedns on your budget
That makes soo much more sense. Cheers!
My friend said this on the uk polo forum,
try to score yourself a 1,4 Diesel engine from a mk3 at a scrappy's, swap the crank + connecting rods and you've got yourself a 1,4 G40, but do put in some fresh piston-rings, and maybe even get yourself a G60 charger on it, plug in a decent Schrick G40 camshaft and then you're off for the thrill of a life time, 1,4 8v with long duration cam an higher boost over the entire rev-range, without stressing your charger (even de-stressing the G60-charger compared to an original Golf G60!)
Have many people done this and is it worth it?
1.4 diesels only cam in foreign mk3s for one.
If you swap crank and con rods you'll still need some machining to the PY block.
G60 chargers do go on, but you'll need a custom mount, custom pipes and a ned map sensor and map for your car
G40 engines over stress a g60 as they rev like f*ck compared to a 1.8 g60 lump.
So he had some ideas there, but not fully thought out!!.
Pete
So best thing really would be to keep charger and engine standard for now and get chip n pulley etc. Where do people go to get G-lader charger ported, 65mm charger pulley & chip, toothed belt kit, 250cc injectors, rebore and forged pistons, Big valve head, aquamist, high lif camshaft, bigger front mount intercooler, dewedge the throttlebody? Was just seeing what people recommend and where to go and not to go.
jabbasport are good, my charger was once re-cond there tho last time i did it myself it was a lot cheaper, have a look http://www.jabbasport.com/
Is this what chip n pulley people tend to get? http://www.jabbasport.com/store/index.php?app=gbu0&ns=prodshow&ref=JSC%26PG40
if you get a chip off yoof here or alan on club polo for £30-50 and a pulley off german ebay, you save about £80-100
Oh right that will be a great help. Does it matter what 65mm pulley? Found these 2 on ebay.

those are both for a Golf/Corrado G60 so neither will fit.
Oh ??? lol didnt realise there was much difference.
yeah they have a ribbed (for her pleasure) belt where as g40s have twin v-belts.
Haha. Well i wont get them for her then. Cheers for all you help guys. Give me some planning to do over the next few months on what im gonna do. Will post bits up while im doing it to. Cheers again.
