Title: grinding noise
Post by: g40chris on June 02, 2009, 11:27:12 PM
im having a grinding/knocking type of noise at about 2500-3000 rpm, aint taken it any higher as its a freshly built engine

could this be the charger or the engine, the charger i bought with no history but sounds fine at idle and low revs, no oil coming through into the boost pipes so i think seals are ok, bearing maybe.

im going to be keeping it lower than 3000 rpm for a fair few miles anyway but was just wondering if anyone has had this before

i spoke to someone in g-werks earlier today and they had a chat with darren and he reckons i should check its not pinking. it does sound like pinking to be honest.

i know the adjustment is on the dizzy cap but which way do i turn it for advance and which way for retard(timmeh!)

towards the bulkhead for advanced and then towards the back of the car for retard.

thanks but i think i may have sorted it or at least found the problem

the alternator keeps coming loose, looks like there is a bush missing on the top mounting point of it. well i had an idea about taking the belts off so i can run the car with no charger to rule out the supercharger making the rattling/grinding sound. turns out the alternator is loose again and rubbing against the body at times and rattling around like a bitch.

so i have taken the belts off and driven it and there is no grinding noise but still rattling as the alternator was still in place but moving about. will let you know if i sort it tonight
